Ready to apply to UNI? Or enrolled and figuring out your plan of study? A combination of professional and faculty advisors are ready to provide the guidance you seek.
- College of Education majors can turn to the professional advisors within the College of Education Advising & Teacher Education Success (CATS) Office.
- Secondary teaching majors work with college-based advisors (College of Business, College of Humanities, Arts & Sciences, College of Social & Behavioral Sciences) for general advising assistance related to your core academic emphasis.
On the road to licensure
Helping keep you on track to meet requirements for teacher licensure is one role of the College of Education Advising & Teacher Education Success (CATS) Office.
Located within the College of Education, this team works with ALL teacher education students. Their goal: to ensure a smooth journey for you as you prepare to apply for licensure from the state of Iowa.

Financial Assistance
Scholarships
The Benjamin J. Allen Teacher Education Scholarship is open to all teaching majors. Students must plan to major in one of the teaching majors and have a minimum ACT of 26 and be an Iowa resident. The scholarship is renewable and is the amount of in-state tuition.
All scholarships can be located in UNI's Online Scholarship Directory and are listed by college and, as applicable, departments. You may also check with your major’s home department with questions. You can apply for scholarships using the universal UNI online application.
TEACH Grant
Interested in teaching in a high-need field in a low-income school? You may be interested in the TEACH grant (Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education).
UNI is among the top 10 universities in the country in awarding the TEACH grant. It provides up to $4,000 per year for for four years for undergraduates; for graduate students, up to two years.
If you meet the criteria, just fill out the online universal application and submit your FAFSA.

Whatever your teaching major, there is a club or organization that fits you at UNI. About 70 student organizations connect to our various teaching majors. And that doesn’t count 200 more that let you explore beyond your degree into other interests and activities that add to your campus experience.
